In my experience, most of my parents (clients) want equal parenting time, so it is important that we discuss the most common equal parenting plans schedules. Creating a parenting plan schedule with the other parent can be a difficult task, but you can use this information for developing a new parenting schedule or modifying an existing parenting time schedule. Equal parenting time schedule is the term used when each parent has the same amount of time spent with the children.

The three most important things to consider when developing a parent plan is the distance between the parties, distance from the child's school or other daily activities, and the parents' work schedule. The most common schedule we see in our practice is the 5-2-2-5 parenting time schedule. In this schedule, one parent exercises parenting time on Monday and Tuesday. The other parent will exercise parenting time on Wednesday and Thursday. Lastly, the parents will alternate Friday Saturday and Sunday weekly. This schedule allows the parents to exercise parenting time for school days and weekend every week. Following this schedule does not prevent the parents from changing the schedule when there is an agreement in place.

The second schedule I want to discuss today is a week on – week off parenting time schedule. I am most nervous to discuss this schedule, since it is very controversial. This schedule has pros and cons. If this week on and week off schedule works for your family, it may be beneficial and a schedule you guys follow for years. The most common concern my parents have with this schedule is that the length of time between seeing your little ones again. Like I said, it works for some families, but some parents wouldn't touch it. With both schedules, it is important your parenting plan include the times and days, you and the other parent will exchange the minor children.
